Lutz thanks blogosphere for Camaro support

Though many factors were responsible for the new Camaro's path to production, Bob Lutz took some time on General Motors' FastLane Blog to recognize the support the car received from the blogosphere. While Lutz only mentions the comments left on FastLane Blog, we can add that the support for the Camaro on Autoblog has been robust to say the least. After posting on the Camaro Concept's introduction at the North American International Auto Show in January, you all left 1,074 comments on the

GM takes Friedman from New York Times to task - CORRECTION

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman wrote an op-ed piece on Wednesday that absolutely blasted General Motors for its "Fuel Price Protection Program" in which California and Florida customers are being reimbursed for the cost of gas above $1.99/gallon for one year. Some more colorful quotes from Friedman's article include, "Is there a company more dangerous to America's fut

Bob Lutz on Rover, Toyota, the Chinese market, and the world's best sports car...

The UK's Channel 4 had the opportunity to sit down with Bob Lutz - General Motors' head of product development, for those living in seclusion - and started the interview by comparing him to Jeremy Clarkson. WTF, you say? It's the dominating physical presence and bountiful opinions of both men that causes the interviewer to draw a line between the two (we're guessing that the views of each on the Buick Lucerne would still serve as a useful means to distingu

Bank feels GM situation getting worse, not better

Banc of America official Ronald Talross feels that General Motors' financial picture is actually worsening, based on a meeting last week with GM CFO Fritz Henderson. While Talross claims to have been impressed with Henderson's straightforward approach, it is said that there were "no original solutions" presented with regard to GM's slipping market share, and that without a "silver bullet" solution to this problem, the automaker's stock price should resume

Cadillac CTS Coupe coming by 2008

Sources close to Cadillac spilled the beans to AutoWeek about the addition of a coupe to the CTS lineup when the sedan's second generation debuts in 2008 as a 2009 model. While not officially approved, Lutz the car czar reportedly "really wants it" and since the lion's share of its components, sheetmetal and powertrains would come straight from the CTS the associated costs shouldn't be too much for the General to swallow. AutoWeek, however, expresses concern over the coupe's size, which will be

GM's hot products selling out

All the available production for Pontiac's Solstice, Saturn's Sky and Chevrolet's Corvette is sold out for 2006, according to General Motors product czar Bob Lutz. Citing the fast-selling sports cars as evidence that GM is fully capable of building vehicles that people want to buy, Lutz also pointed to Chevy's successful HHR as another new vehicle that's selling well without big incentives. HHR annual production has more than doubled (to 132,000 units) to meet demand.

The Goat Lives! Lutz says next GTO still on

They're starting to sound like DaimlerChrysler's SMART division. Pontiac's on-again/off-again GTO is allegedly back on track for 2008, and will likely be built on GM's Zeta platform alongside the 2008 Chevy Camaro, AutoWeek reports. The announcement overturns the news that the GTO's successor had been cancelled due to GM's need to reorganize its priorities.

Jerry York: Saab, Hummer good for GM after all

Tracinda's Jerry York appears to have changed his tune about what General Motors needs to do in order to get back on track, according to Bob Lutz. Kirk Kerkorian's right-hand man made headlines in January, calling for GM to axe Saab and possibly HUMMER to focus on the automaker's core brands... but now, Lutz says, York acknowledges that he spoke too soon.
